Plymouth will host the British Fireworks Championship for another stunning show. A vibrant display of swirling lights and colours will erupt on the Plymouth Hoe shoreline this tonight and tomorrow.

With six of the most outstanding pyrotechnic firms competing to impress judges and viewers, this will be the city’s 25th annual firework competition. Each team will display the nation’s best fireworks for ten minutes. Then, every evening as twilight descends, the 1st fireworks display will begin at about 9.30 p.m.

It is celebrated on behalf of the shooting victims who left the city of Plymouth in shock and sadness. The Independence Day celebration in Philadelphia in 1777 served as the inspiration for the custom of lighting off fireworks. The Sons of Liberty lit fireworks above Boston Common while a ship saluted the 13 original colonies with a salute of 13 guns.

Fireworks: Where and when the event will occur?

Live entertainment will start on the stage (placed on the grass at the east end of the Hoe) at 6 o’clock and include live music, dance, and commentary throughout the shows (more details below). Each night, three teams will perform a 10-minute show of fireworks starting at 9.30 p.m. Each display is spaced out by around ten minutes.
